Matera/Basilicata
Bike through a region overlooked by time.
Uncover the mysteries of Matera and Basilicata, in the “arch” of Southern Italy’s boot. It is the least known region to Italian tourists as well as native Italians – a place that almost feels untouched and forgotten. Making it all the more inviting to explore it slowly and gently. It is a treasure chest with varied colors and landscapes – each day a new biking experience. Bike through beautiful forests carpeted with wild pink orchids, enjoy wild blackberries along the route, and settle in sweet villages that have maintained their identity for centuries. Bello. Beautiful.
Explore fascinating UNESCO World Heritage sites. Discover the Sassi of Matera – century-old caves carved out of rock cliffs and lived in until the 1950’s. This UNESCO Site is being renovated and once again occupied.
There is an optional extension to this tour which would allow for another day of biking through the fairytale-like village of Alberobello, another UNESO Site known for its small, conical shaped rock houses called trulli. Unique places waiting for you.
Basilicata: Forests and Ravines Biking
Bike through the varied landscape of Basilicata with ancient forests, rolling hills covered with grain or grapes, sweet villages, and the calanchi hills. Each day is a different experience with climbs and descents, hills and valleys, prairies and forests. Enjoy the pace of life: slow, genuine, and simple.
Matera: Basilicata and Apulia Easy Biking
This tour through the hills of Matera begins with the Sassi of Matera, old dwellings and rock churches carved out of the rock cliffs centuries ago. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
