Traveling with children this age can be a complex undertaking, but with the right balance, the whole family can have a great experience! For the littlest cyclers, we would recommend a bike with a trailer or fitted seat (we will worry about sorting out the correct kind depending on your needs) and a distance of around 5-10 kilometers per ride, with possible rest stops along the way for snacks and play. Van support with small children is highly recommended; knowing that staff are close by in a van no matter what pops up gives you the peace of mind to relax and bond with your family, stress-free. You get the joy of cycling with your family and the ease of mind, knowing that you can always choose a ride in the van if need be.
This age can be perfect for a cycling vacation! Kids this age are energetic and active and may not have the attention span for long days sightseeing at museums, but a cycling trip is perfect for engaging them physically while also including cultural and educational activities. If your child still has training wheels, you should wait until they are more confident before planning a trip. Depending on their fitness levels, older children can handle longer distances, around 15-25 kilometers per day. At this age, we would also seek routes on dedicated cycle paths and not on the road. The good news is that Italy has plenty of gorgeous dedicated cycling paths that traverse popular destinations. Depending on your children's interests, we could also plan other excursions, like guided farm visits, hikes, cooking classes, museum visits, and more, to help keep them engaged.
Look no further! A bike tour is a wonderful option for teens. Between the physical outlet of cycling and the cultural engagement, they will build self-confidence and bond with you in new ways. Active teens may especially enjoy more challenging rides, between 30 to 50 kilometers per day. Depending on their confidence and skill, these could include more challenging terrains or even mountain biking. The daily itineraries can include things like cooking classes, museum visits, cultural workshops and local events, hikes, guided walking tours, and more! Each day will challenge and engage your teens in new and unique ways. A guided tour is also highly recommended. Our guides will bring you and your family into Italy and the Italian way of life. They will explain what you see along the way and stimulate curiosity and exploration.
