Piedmont

The land of kings. The kingdom of wines.

scroll down

Piedmont is majestic and mindful.

It is the kingdom of Italy, home to the noble Savoy family, who filled the region with palaces, castles, and luxurious hunting lodges. It is the cradle of Italy's unification, sparked by conversations in Turin's grand bars in the 1860's. The people of Piedmont live a deeply conscious lifestyle in harmony with good living and wholesome food....and noble wines. Cycle the orchards, vineyards, and hazelnut forests.
Bike Piedmont and see each day unfold with bliss and triumph.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in Turin!
Welcome to the royal town of Italy. This was the heart of the Savoy's family kingdom in Italy. Turin is a hub of Europe between London, Paris, Barcelona, Munich, even along the eastern route to Jerusalem. Turin also became the birthplace of the unification of Italy, which took place over years in mid-1800's and became final in 1861. We will gather in the afternoon at our hotel for a welcome and a glass of wine (the first of several during our tour). We will enjoy dinner together at one of our favorite restaurants.

Day 2
Cycle the land of the Savoys
Today we will be introduced to our bikes with a lovely ride to Venaria Palace, one of the Savoy's palaces near Turin. In the afternoon we will explore Turin on a guided walking tour. Enjoy a walk along the covered porticos (that stretch along 10 miles) and among charming open plazas. Along the way we will stop at one of our favorite cafes for a chance to experience a coffee, pastry, or bicerin (a chocolate coffee concoction of Turin) in one of Turin's grand bars.

Day 3
Into the Piemonte countryside
We leave Turin for a brief shuttle ride to visit the Savoy family's hunting lodge built in the 1700's. It is like a small Versailles, a beautiful place. From here we bike along fields and forests, through villages and on a nice bike path that was once a railway, and we'll arrive in Villafranca. Relax during lunch in a special place. We will shuttle to our hotel in Saluzzo, a hotel converted from a monastery, beautiful restored and opened in 2010. The town of Saluzzo is charming with cobblestone streets and beautiful architecture…an enchanting stay. Together we will enjoy a dinner at a special restaurant. Bring your appetite!

Tour Hotels

Siciclando carefully chooses every aspect of a tour, including the accommodations.

Our choices are based on comfort and quality. We often choose hotels that are family-owned and operated because they provide a richer experience and because it is important to us to support the efforts of these individuals. We have developed relationships with many wonderful hotel operators. Here is a sample of the hotels on this tour for the "guided" version (please, ask us the hotel list for the "self guided" version which, due to the logistic, may be different).

Tour accommodations will be based on availability and the time of year. Once you have made your final payment for the tour, we will send you a confirmation letter that includes daily accommodations and contact information.
